Prizes worth a total of €35,000 to be won!
The Luxembourg Art Prize is an annual international artistic prize organized by the Pinacothèque, a private museum located in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Every year the Prize aims to discover talents, amateur or professional, regardless of age and nationality.
Since it was created in 2015, the Luxembourg Art Prize aims to launch or boost the careers of artists at the international level by giving them a sound reference to add to their curriculum vitae.
Each year, 24 finalist artists are selected by the Museum for the quality of their applications and the strength of their artistic approach. Among them, 3 winners are chosen and ranked by an independent jury. They receive prizes worth €20,000, €10,000 and €5,000 respectively, including a cash award of €17,000, €7,000 or €2,000, which they are entirely free to use as they wish, as well as a critical essay dedicated to their artistic practice, written and published in the international art magazine ArtCritic, valued at €3,000.
Each year, the Museum also recognizes artists whose work has particularly impressed its selection committee, whether or not they are finalists. An official certificate of artistic merit, available in 9 languages, is awarded to no more than 25% of participants. This selective distinction represents prestigious recognition from the Museum, enhancing the artistic credentials of its recipients and contributing to their international visibility.
The Prize is aimed at artists working in one or more of the following media: drawing, printing, installation, painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, decorative art (textiles and material, glass, wood, metal, ceramics, mosaic, paper or other techniques).
New from the 2020 edition
In recognition of the fact that completing the application file is an important and sometimes difficult step, the museum would like to reward artists who make the effort. Therefore, all artists who completed their application file will receive a certificate from the Luxembourg Art Prize issued by the museum.
FOUR KEY STAGES
Call for submissions
Applications must be submitted online by September 30 of each year. Artists can register for one, two, or three groups, as long as they respect the registration deadlines for each group. Group 1 closes on March 31, Group 2 closes on June 30, and Group 3 closes on September 30. For each group, candidates will have until September 30 to complete their application.

Designation of finalists
In October, the artistic committee of the Pinacothèque Museum meets to review the applications that have been received. The committee selects 8 finalists from each group, or a total of 24 artists. On November 1, the names of the finalists are revealed on the website.
Selection of the winners
The independent final jury reviews the applications of the 24 finalist artists throughout November. Its role is to select and rank the 3 winners of the Luxembourg Art Prize, whose names are announced online on December 1.
According to their ranking, the winners receive prizes worth €20,000, €10,000 and €5,000 respectively. Each prize includes a cash award of €17,000, €7,000 or €2,000, paid directly into the winner’s bank account and free to use as they wish, as well as a critical essay dedicated to their artistic practice, written and published in the international art magazine ArtCritic, valued at €3,000.
This dual award combines substantial financial support with international editorial recognition, helping to enhance the artistic credentials and increase the visibility of all three winners.
Official certificate
Each year, the Museum recognizes artists whose applications and artistic approaches have particularly impressed its selection committee through their exceptional quality, whether or not they are finalists. An official, personalized certificate of artistic merit is awarded to no more than 25% of participants.
Artists recognized by the selection committee will be able to download their official certificate from their personal account starting December 1, following the announcement of the three Luxembourg Art Prize winners. This certificate is available in 9 different languages.
This selective distinction reflects the Museum’s official recognition of artists whose merit and artistic talent have been particularly outstanding. It represents a prestigious museum endorsement, enhancing their artistic credentials and contributing to their international visibility.
